About Department of Economics The Political leaders Philanthropists and the people in and around Bail-hongal felt the necessity of higher education to the rural mass. The result was the establishment of Kittur Rani Channamma Education Society in 1968, with blessings of his Holiness Shri. Shri Mahant Swamiji of Murgod and under the President-ship of Shri. S.R.Kanthi, then Education minister, Govt. of Mysore. During the same year the management of our Society took the initiative to Start the Arts and Science College in Bailhongal. As part of institution “The Dept of Economics” was started on 20th June 1968, with vision of providing quality education to rural mass and make worthy citizen of India with high ethical values and with mission of imbibing the tenets of Economics among the students to be socially responsible graduates. Shri. N.B.Guravannavar joined the Dept as Lecturer in the Year June 1968 and served as Head of Dept (HOD) till his untimely death in the year 1981. Shri S.S.Bagewadi joined the dept in the year 1970 as Lecture. He took the responsibility of Head of Dept in the Year 1981. Shri B.G.Katti joined the Dept in June 1981 as Stopgap Lecturer. He was appointed as permanent Lecturer in July 1984. Shri. B. Y. Alagundi joined the Dept in July 1982 on part-time basis. He was appointed as permanent Lecturer in January 1986. Smt. S. S. Charantimath served as part-time lecturer from July 1983 to December 1985 and Miss. H. B. Kalasannavar served as part-time Lecturer from July 1990 to 1992. Shri. S. S. Bagewadi retired on August 2002. Since then Prof. B. G. Katti is serving as the Head of the Department. Shri B. G. Katti took the responsibility of principal on 31st many 2016. Since then Prof. B. Y Alagundi is serving as the Head of the Department. The following table Shows Lecturers serving in the Dept at present.
Ever since the establishment of the Department, the examinations results are excellent. Prof. B. Y. Alagundi, H.O.D has participated in 25 National Level Seminars and conferences. Many of the alumni have occupied important positions in the society as Lectures, Industrialists, Politicians and progressive agriculturists. The Department has 3101 books and many Journals / Periodicals in the central library. The Department in Co-Operation with the Department of Commerce has jointly organized the U.G.C sponsored Two Day National Seminar on “Global Meltdown and Its Impact on India” on 10th & 11th April 2010. The department of Economics and commerce jointly organized one day National Seminar on “Rural Credit and Inclusive Growth” on 2nd march 2015.
