About Department of Commerce
The political leaders, philanthropists and the people in and around Bailhongal felt the necessity of higher education to the rural mass. As a result, with the blessings of His Holiness Shri Shri. Mahant Swamiji of Murgod, the Kittur Rani Channamma Education Society was established in the year 1968, under the presidentship of Sri. S.R.Kanthi, the then Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Mysore. During the Same year, the Management of our society took the initiative to start the Arts and Science College in Bailhongal. As part of the Institution, the “Department of Commerce” was started in June 1972. Sri. I.M. Mahanthashettar, a leading tax consultant of Bailhongal, joined the Department as a lecturer and served the Department till 1973. Thereafter, Sri. G.A.Alarwad joined the Department and served from 1973 to 1975. In 1975, Sri. R.S.Kubasad joined as Head of the Department and served up to 31st May 2008 and then he took charge as Principal of our College on 01-06-2008. There after Shri. G.S.Hiremath took the responsibility of the Department as HOD and retired on 31-03-2016. Thereafter Dr. Y.G. Baligatti has been entrusted responsibility as HOD and is serving till know. In the year 2009-10, the UGC sponsored COP in Computer and Practical Accounting has been started to the B.Com I & II semester students. As per the University norms 30 students have been enrolled for certificate course in Computer and Practical Accounting. The important milestone in the history of our department is commencement of post graduate course in commerce to cater to the needs of rural people around Bailhongal Taluka. Our elite and visionary management started the PG Course which is affiliated to Rani Channamma University, Belagavi with the prescribed norms of 20 students during the academic year 2013-14.
